The following is a list of tools that MIAN has in the pipeline and has access to through its partners. The tools are rated in the following way:

Cartoons to explain the essentials of insurance (3)
The essentials of insurance can be made clear by using cartoons. In particular valuable in environments where metaphors and story-telling are part of the culture, like in the African continent.
Market survey questionnaires for MFO members (3)
Structured questionnaire for investigation of potential markets for micro insurance. This questionnaire is end-user oriented. For example for members of SACCO’s (Savings and Credits Cooperative Organization’s).

Structured questionnaire for investigation of potential markets for Micro Finance Organizations. This questionnaire is intended for local MFO’s. For example for SACCO’s (Savings and Credits Cooperative Organization’s).

Templates for project initiation, terms of reference, memorandum of understanding, monitoring and assessment.
Guidelines for donor organizations (1)
Guidelines for mutual understanding and code of conduct for the execution of MIAN consultancy, describing roles and responsibilities of both the donor organization as well as MIAN and its Micro Insurance consultants.

Open Source Software Tool for underwriting (1)
An underwriting tool has been developed in an open source environment. Fully documented and based on existing CRM software. To be enhanced for usage by specific NGO’s and MFO’s.

Business Process templates for the various primary processes: new policy, renewals, claim handling, client- and policy administration.
Criteria for software choice (3)
A comprehensive checklist for choosing underwriting software for NGO’s and MFO’s. The checklist helps to valuate criteria like: functionality, continuity of supplier, support, expertise of the supplier, system requrements, property and liability, documentation, compliance with objectives and cost.
Term Life insurance calculation model (4)
This excel life insurance calculation model gives a comprehensive calculation of premiums, taking into account gender, age, sum insured, local values for mortality, insurance end age, increasing risks factors and expense loadings.
Reinsurance template (3)
For reinsurance a template is available with , procedures, premium calculation, terms and conditions, wordings and schedule of a reinsurance contract.
Insurance Game (1)
A boardgame that can be used to enhance the understanding of the basics of micro insurance. This game is intended for MFO’s and their clients.
Insurance Training Manual (4)
An extensive generic training manual that can be used for local trainings, both for NGO’s/MFO’s as well as for clients. It contains items like: the history of insurance, mutuality, social security, risks and the law of big numbers, insurance products, underwriting, claims handling, reinsurance and tips for trainers.
